Cardio, short for cardiovascular exercise, works by raising your heart rate, preferably to your target heart rate zone, to make your heart pump flood at a faster rate. Doing so aids your body in burning calories, and due to the extended time of an elevated heart rate, many think of cardio as the best way to lose weight by increasing caloric deficit.
